Snoring Remedies

If you snore it may make you feel better knowing that that 45% of
all adults snore occasionally, and 25% snore almost all the time.
Males, overweight people, and older adults are more likely to suffer
from problem snoring.
What actually causes people to snore? Snoring is caused by a
vibration of the uvula and soft palate and is experienced by almost
half of the population at some stage in life. Also sleep apnea
causes snoring. Another reason is that as men get older there is an
area of skin in the throat that folds over and blocks the air
passage thus causes breathing problems.
You need not suffer from sleepless nights from being woken up by
your own snoring. There are solutions that you can try and it
doesn't necessarily mean that you need to abruptly cut alcohol
intake or to avoid the food which satisfies your appetite. You can
start from small steps to helping yourself against snoring problems.
There are many snoring remedies available, some more effective than

although I found a far more effective form of help in snoring
exercises.

Do not drink or take any drugs before going to sleep
Snoring is usually caused by loose tissue in the throat that
vibrates when you breathe. When this tissue becomes too relaxed this
can then cause snoring. Alcohol in the form of wine, beer or spirits
just before going to bed can relax the tissue enough to cause
snoring. Likewise, any kind of drug that causes muscles to become
relaxed will also relax the tissue in your throat and cause snoring.
If you need to drink or take any drugs, if possible try to take them
at least 2 hours before retiring. If you have been prescribed to
take any medication before bedtime please consult your doctor before
changing any drug taken patterns.
Food that can help snoring
Dairy products are known to increase mucous production in some
people. This extra mucous can restrict the airway passages and lead
to, or intensify, snoring. This is real unfortunate as a lot of
people make a point of drinking a glass of milk prior o bedtime,
believing it helps them attain a good nights rest. In fact, we now
know that in certain people, the milk actually only contributes to
their snoring. Cheese, can have the same effect. Other foods that
can contribute to snoring are wheat, fatty foods, and processed
foods.
Should you decide to go down this path to help stop your snoring,
please remember that we all need to eat a balanced diet? The
consequence of removing a particular food or restricting the intake
of a food group should be discussed with a medically qualified
professional. In addition to the other food mentioned above, dairy
products provide a high proportion of calcium and other components
needed for a healthy body.
Stop Snoring Pillow
Another one of the many solutions to stop snoring is a snoring
pillow. These specially designed foam snoring pillows are made in a
way to keep a person sleeping on their side instead of their back.
CPAP Machine
The most popular sleep apnea used today is CPAP. Doctors say that
CPAP is the most effective non-surgical treatment that is available
to eliminate sleep apnea and snoring.
If you snoring is loud enough to disturb your family or you are
sleeping during the daytime, breathing being obstructed at night, or
left tired in the morning then maybe using a CPAP is the best
solution for you. Your otolaryngologies would be best placed to
advise you in this regard.
The majority of sleep apnea masks are triangular, with adjustable
straps that wrap around the head to keep the sleep apnea mask in
place. Generally sleep apnea masks consist of a hard plastic body
and a softer silicone seal. The CPAP consists of a portable machine
with a mask, tubes and fan. The patient wears the sealed mask, which
is connected to a hose, over the nose during sleep. CPAP works by
gently blowing pressurized air through the nasal passage at a
pressure high enough to prevent the throat from collapsing during
sleep. The masks should fit well, as the masks are only effective
when there is a seal that doesn't enable air to slip through. To
make sure the seal is correct, the straps that go around the head
must be properly fitted, not too loose or too tight.
Some people may find the cost of the mask a downside as they can
retail for approximately $1000 however this may not be considered a
great expenditure if it actually helps you to stop snoring.
Exercise cures for snoring
I once read in a newspaper that sticking your tongue out straight
ahead and gently tiring to increase the stretching of your tongue
farther each day can help reduce snoring. Another tongue exercise
cures for snoring can be done by sticking out your tongue the
farthest you can and try to reach out for your chin. You may feel
this to be a bit far fetched but it did actually work for me and I
am sure for many others. Exercising the muscles around the throat
area as well as the tongue helps reduce or cure snoring. Although
for any anatomical irregularities, it goes without saying that you
should consult your doctor.
Weight Loss
If you visit any doctor or health clinic I would be surprised if
they do not recommend you to loss weight to help stop snoring (that
is if you are overweight off course). Losing weight is off course
not only helps with the treatment of your snoring but helps with
your overall well being as a person. As such this is a very good
